This is my driving force to do well whenever possible. I’m a bigtime procrastinator. If I don’t make a conscious effort to kick my butt into shape every day, I’ll sit around the house, do nothing, and then complain that I want to do more the next day.

Master’s presence in my life makes me strive to do my best. His rules for me push me to go the extra mile when I wouldn’t ordinarily bother. When I want to procrastinate, I just think about what He would say to me. Or what He would think if He knew that His puppycat wasn’t at least trying. That’s what He asks of me - to always try my very best.

Sometimes, I fail. Sometimes, like yesterday, I don’t get as much done as I set out to do, and I get really frustrated with it. Now, had this been because of my own procrastination and laziness, Master would have scolded me pretty badly. I have no doubt in my mind that had I simply been too lazy to do my work, He would have made it clear to me that that behavior wasn’t what He expected from His pet.

But it doesn’t always happen that way. There are times when I fail despite trying my very best. Yesterday, I fell short of the expectations I try to meet on a regular basis, not because I was lazy and not because I didn’t try. I did try. I tried very hard, and I simply fell short. I thought for a little while that this would earn me a punishment of some kind, or at least a scolding.

However, because my failure to meet my quota wasn’t due to laziness or my desire to procrastinate, both of which my Master can spot in a second, He was still proud of me. He was proud of me for trying, for putting in as much effort as I could and delivering the best possible product with what time I had.

Master doesn’t expect me to be perfect. He knows that sometimes, His pet’s performance isn’t going to be up to par, not for lack of trying but for lack of opportunity, time, or resources,

All He asks is that I make the effort. Always. That makes Him proud of me. Knowing that makes me even more enthusiastic about doing a good job whenever possible.
